Archaeological Museum in Valetta, Malta

The "Sleeping Lady", which was found in the Hypogeum - a below ground temple/cemetary, built with architectual details similar to the above ground temples.  It has been surmised by many that this lady is modeling "dream incubation" for the purpose of healing, in the same manner that dreams were encouraged in the later healing temples of Aesclepius in Greece.

A number of the full-bodied figurines commonly accepted to be Goddesses of ancient Malta.  While there are those who suggest they are non gendered, the small hands and delicate poses of the figures strongly suggest femininity.

Two views of Valetta, built as a walled city in the 1500's by the Knights of Malta.
